SYDNEY MIDDLE EASTERN DANCE FESTIVAL.
The annual Sydney Middle Eastern Dance Festival is Australia's longest-established and most popular belly dance event. It is the highlight of the year for belly dancers, students and fans throughout the country. The Festival is produced by Leonie Sükan, Principal and Artistic Director of the Newtown Middle Eastern Dance Centre. From small beginnings the Festival has grown to attract participants from all over Australia and from overseas. The Festival consists of middle eastern dance and drumming workshops taught by Australia's best teachers and international guests, and many performances, including a gala concert, a dance party, and the all-day Festival Follies. The Festival takes place each year in April / May.

MAY
World Belly Dance Day
Second Saturday in May
Our mission is to unite the initiative of dancers around the world to celebrate the wonderful art of belly dance as a holiday on the second Saturday in May every year. We got inspired by the idea of holding an event that would serve as a reminder that belly dance is an ART form, a cultural event, a sport, and a social and family entertainment. It is also a wonderful chance to help those in need.

JUNE/JULY
Brisbane Winter Warmup
The Brisbane Winter Warmup owes its existance to the efforts of Azziza (Maria Masselos).
For the first 13 years it ran from Saturday to Saturday with over 40 hours of workshops by the guest teacher (not including the warm-ups usually taken by AMED's Yasmini) plus lectures, videos, shows, shopping, and Safe Dance Practice lectures and hands on. From 2009 it reduced to four days of dance workshops (still with the bazaar, show and physio lectures).

DECEMBER
SPHINX FESTIVAL EGYPT.
Festival creator and organiser, Keti Sharif aims to present a high quality learning experience with great opportunities for cross-cultural interaction between participants and speakers. The festival serves to empower participants who may represent the Egyptian arts internationally, so that they may deliver their art with respect, knowledge and awareness. The festival offers three scholarships for Egyptian dance students living in Egypt as part of an incentive to encourage the preservation of dance in Egypt by local dancers, under the mentorship of Farida and Mahmoud themselves.
